Sergino Dest revealed some positive news ahead of PSV’s final slate of Eredivisie matches this spring.
Dest admitted that he’s “almost back” after being sidelined since March 7 due to a hamstring injury. The U.S. men’s national team and PSV defender has been out of action for club and country since then, but is making progress ahead of an expected return before the FIFA World Cup.
“I’m doing really well,” Dest said in a Q&A with U.S. Soccer via Instagram on Monday. “I had great sessions, and I’m almost back.
“I worked really hard for this moment, so I’m gonna be there,” he added. “I’m gonna be fine. And no worries.”
The 25-year-old has made 35 appearances for PSV this season, scoring two goals and adding five assists. Peter Bosz’s squad have already clinched the Eredivisie title for the third-consecutive season and have four matches remaining this spring.
Dest’s injury forced him to miss the USMNT’s pair of March friendly defeats to Belgium and Portugal respectively, but he remains a viable option to return to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad for the World Cup. Pochettino is scheduled to announce his World Cup roster on May 26 before the USMNT takes on Senegal and Germany in their final two tune-up matches.
A former dual-national, Dest has earned 37 caps with the USMNT to date, scoring two goals. He started all four of the program’s 2022 World Cup matches in Qatar and will be fighting with Tim Weah, Alex Freeman, and Joe Scally for right back minutes this summer.
