Jonathan Tomkinson has contract option exercised by Cheltenham Town

Jonathan Tomkinson’s productive first season with Cheltenham Town has earned him a longer stay at the club.

Tomkinson’s option for the 2026-27 campaign has been exercised, Cheltenham Town announced in their end-of-season roster moves list on Tuesday. The American defender originally joined the club last summer as a free agent signing.

Tomkinson delivered a career-best 38 appearances for Cheltenham Town in all competitions this season, scoring his first goal at senior level. The 24-year-old helped the club avoid a potential drop from League Two, finishing with 52 points from 46 matches.

Prior to his move to the club, Tomkinson previously played for Norwich City, where he was loaned out three times (Stevenage, Bradford City, Ross County). He made three senior appearances at Carrow Road while totaling 49 appearances during his loan spells elsewhere.

A former U.S. youth national team defender, Tomkinson played for the USMNT U-17’s, U-20’s, and U-23’s.

Cheltenham Town will begin its 2026-27 season in August, seeking to be one of the clubs fighting for promotion.
