Mexican youngster Efrain Alvarez handed the Los Angeles Galaxy an advantage in emphatic fashion on national television, spoiling Charlotte FC’s home opener late.
Alvarez found a little space above the 18-yard box and curled a beautiful shot over Charlotte goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina. The Galaxy finally found a breakthrough with Alvarez’ 77th-minute goal, having generated 18 shots.
The Galaxy won the match, 1-0. Charlotte FC broke the MLS attendance record with 73,019 fans in attendance.
The 19-year-old Mexican international meaningfully broke into the Galaxy squad back in 2020 and took another big step forward in 2021, with two goals and three assists in 26 games.
Alvarez’ goal continues the Galaxy’s excellent start to the season and sets the tone for a promising individual season.
