Malik Tillman has received plenty of European interest this summer but now reportedly looks set to move to the Dutch Eredivisie.
Dutch giants PSV are set to acquire Tillman on a season-loan spell from Bayern Munich, European outlet Sport1 reported. English Premier League side Sheffield United was also linked with Tillman this summer, but it looks like the opportunity to play in the UEFA Champions League could persuade Tillman to move to Holland, according to the report.
Tillman, 21, has remained with Bayern Munich’s first team ahead of the new Bundesliga season. He suffered a season-ending thigh injury while on loan with Scottish Premiership club Rangers last spring.
Tillman has made just seven senior appearances with Bayern, scoring once against Bremer SV in the 2021-22 German DFB Pokal.
Tillman enjoyed a stellar loan spell in Glasgow last season, registering 12 goals and five assists in 43 combined appearances under Giovanni Van Bronckhorst and Michael Beale. He earned several honors in Scotland, including being named to the SPFL and PFA Scotland Best XI teams, and earning SPFL and Rangers’ Young Player of the Year honors.
A former German youth national team player, Tillman switched his international allegiance to the USMNT last summer. He’s earned four caps with the USMNT across all competitions.
PSV acquired Tillman’s international teammate Ricardo Pepi earlier this summer from Augsburg. Pepi recently made his debut Friday in a 1-0 Dutch Super Cup victory over Feyenoord.
That’s now 5 young Americans in the Eredivisie this season:
Pepi PSV
Tillman PSV
Booth Utrecht
Anello Sparta Rotterdam
Mihailovich AZ
Also talk of Caden Clark joining FC Twente on loan. Haven’t seen anything official on that yet.
Dutch league is a step up from the SPL which should help continue his development. He played centrally in the SPL so we’ll have to see if Gregg adopts the 4-2-3-1 w/ Reyna playing as a 10….if he does than Tillman could become a viable back-up to Gio. If Gregg doesn’t than he’ll have a hard time making the US Team. Playing with Pepi should also be an added benefit to the USMNT.
Played in 4 of 6 NT matches under Berhalter after declaring. Gregg clearly rates him even if he’s not sure where to play him. We’ll see if Crocker and Gregg stay with the 4-3-3 after they’re strategy sessions. We may find out in the next week, wouldn’t be surprised to see Gregg on the interview circuit to deflect from the USWNT failure.
What? “To deflect from the USWNT failure”? Why would they need to do that? Why would USSF take losing to Sweden “personally”? Are you seriously suggesting USSF, and the women’s team can’t take any heat or criticism? Do you think they are all 5-year-olds or something? Losing was disappointing but so tired of hearing appopleptic sayings like “failure” and “embarrassment”. It’s an F’ing game.
Ross: I don’t think the women themselves would have any trouble answering questions. Deflecting and avoidance is a frequent tactic by USSF. We also haven’t seen Berhalter since the Vegas presser, presumably to not pull attention away from first BJ and the GC team and then the women’s team and their WC prep and performance. USSF likes the slow “thoughtful reflection” while we all fire off our instant “analysis” USSF will take weeks or months, and in the meantime they will move on and act as if everything is normal. We may not see Gregg though until after the WWC final just to keep the focus on the WC in general to keep the US soccer public’s eyes on the WC. I think the Messi experience has drawn a lot of focus off the WWC anyway.

Losing in the round of 16 is a failure. The goal was to win, they didn’t win. They didn’t get close. Winning the WC for the WNT is the standard. Had they lost in the quarters or the semis it would be a result but you can’t go 1-3-0 and call that an adequate performance. It’s not an embarrassment to lose on penalties to Sweden or draw with Netherlands.
JR,
Maybe they are looking for things for Gregg to do.
Another thing for the 4 year cycle USMNT to learn from the WNT.
This failure stings but they pretty quickly have the Olympics to give them a serious chance to make up for it. And, for the women, the Olympics are serious event, unlike it is for the men.
In comparison the men have to wait 4 years when they fail. That’s why it would be good if Copa America can be a permanent fixture and put the USMNT on a 2 year cycle.
It tightens the focus for the men, gives them more opportunity to earn respectable silverware and makes sure that Gregg has something to do with himself.
Since when do men’s and women’s managers provide commentary on the other genders team? It won’t happen, and doesn’t need to
RonnieT: if USSF sends out Berhalter to do an interview it would be to talk about anything but the WNT. He’s been hired for almost two months and hasn’t spoke to the media since the first week. If they do it it will be to change the focus from WNT and it’s WC performance.
JR
“it would be to talk about anything but the WNT.”
If he doesn’t address the USWNT then what would he talk about?
The USMNT player pool is in a lot of transition and the games haven’t started in Europe yet so until everyone is settled and everyone gets some serious game time in, there’s not a lot of news on the players.
Regardless, you’d think that the USSF would keenly attuned to the dangers of letting Gregg speak his mind in an open forum.
Really good move for him. Linking up with Pepi will be cool to watch. Hopefully he continues his upward trajectory.
Anyone know of Bernard Kamungo from FC Dallas is trying to get US citizenship? Been here in the states since high school and looks like a real good player on the wing. Has a great left foot on him.
Oh never mind Kamungo already has his citizenship. Could be a potential Olympic team player. If he decides he wants to rep the US. Like I said he looks to be a real good attacker.
Tanzania called him up in June but it doesn’t look like he played
