Americans Abroad Midweek Rewind: Macario, Wright, and more

Catarina Macario’s production in the Chelsea squad this year continued on Wednesday night despite Emma Hayes’ squad suffering a major setback in their quest to lift the WSL title.

Macario assisted once in Chelsea’s 4-3 league loss to Liverpool, logging 90 minutes from her forward position. The U.S. women’s national team forward now has three assists across all competitions since her return to action for the defending league champions. Macario’s corner kick in the ninth minute was finished by Aggie Beever-Jones for a 1-0 Blues advantage, however Liverpool would storm back to claim all three points at home.

Macario will hope to play a vital role in Chelsea’s final three league matches of the season, knowing a perfect run is needed to edge Manchester City to the title. The Citizens sit six points clear of Chelsea in the standings and could clinch the title Sunday with three points against Arsenal, paired with Chelsea dropping points against Bristol City.

In England, Haji Wright scored once for Coventry City. Catarina Macario assisted once in Chelsea’s WSL loss to Liverpool.

In Italy, Tanner Tessmann went the distance for Venezia, but the Serie B side lost to Catanzaro.

In CONCACAF, Both Alex Zendejas and Brandon Vazquez suffered Champions Cup elimination.
