A former DC United homegrown player, Paredes made 29 appearances and scored three goals last season for Wolfsburg. He then followed up a strong club season by featuring in all four of the U.S. men’s Olympic team’s matches in Paris last summer, scoring once.
“Unfortunately after 14 weeks of rehab, I have undergone surgery and will be sidelined for a bit longer this season,” Paredes said in an Instagram post. “I want to wish my teammates and fans all the best for the remainder of the time. I can’t wait to return and get back to doing what I love most.”
Paredes has earned three senior caps for the USMNT to date, assisting once. His absence though has hurt his international opportunities under new head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Wolfsburg has five final matches this calendar year, starting with this weekend’s league trip to RB Leipzig. The club also remains in the German DFB Pokal competition and will host Hoffenheim in Round of 16 play on Dec. 4.
