Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Pulisic, Yow, and more

AC Milan’s quest for a top-six finish isn’t done just yet.

The Rossoneri claimed a 2-0 road victory over Venezia on Sunday with U.S. men’s national team star Christian Pulisic scoring his 15th goal of the season in all competitions. The contribution marked Pulisic’s 50th in AC Milan colors, continuing a second stellar season in Italy.

Pulisic needed only five minutes to find the back of the net after AC Milan forced a defensive mistake from Venezia. The 26-year-old was played into the 18-yard box before slotting home into the bottom-left corner.

Santiago Gimenez delivered the Rossoneri’s insurance goal in second-half stoppage time, sealing an important three points against one of Serie A’s strugglers.

Pulisic is on pace to setting a new career-high for goals in a single season, sitting one tally behind his 2023-24 haul.

AC Milan sits five points back of sixth-place Juventus with four matches remaining in league play. The Rossoneri will face Genoa and Bologna in back-to-back matches before closing their league schedule against Roma and Monza.

In England, Chris Richards and Crystal Palace advanced to the FA Cup Final. Ethan Horvath and Cardiff City suffered relegation from England’s second-tier. Tyler Adams and Bournemouth conceded a late equalizer vs. Manchester United.

In Germany, Kevin Paredes and John Tolkin suffered respective injuries in Bundesliga play. Gio Reyna featured in Borussia Dortmund’s road victory.

In France, Tanner Tessmann featured off of the bench in Lyon’s home win.

Uh. . . no, no he did not. No reason was given – i.e. injury or because he is going to get a transfer.

      • Fotmob says early June. RotorWire says he’s expected back this Saturday vs Villa. It appears to be associated with his tendinopathy that kept him out in March. Fulham cannot make European play at this point, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they just shut him down for the year. At least Poch has time to come up with a plan B for the GC instead of the late notice before NL.

Initial reports are Paredes will be out until at least the end is the season maybe into next fall.

      • Another possibility is it’s the same tendon issue which is caused by usage. Since Fulham has nothing left to play for they are sitting him the rest of the season to be ready for GC. The US has twice allowed Jedi to stay and rest with Fulham. This could be repaying the favor and resting him so he’s available this summer for the US. I’d honestly rather give him the summer off to be rested for WC.

    • He was having a game too. It was good battle with SCF’s LB Makengo. He was cutting infield quite a bit and causing problems with pace. It was obvious how bummed he was when he went out. Looked like a left thigh issue – it was taped all the way around. Sad for him.

Stoked for the result though! Go SCF! Imagine! Champions League to Freiburg! Sadly they have to hold off BVB. Who would have thought I’d have this issue when I was going to SCF 2. games in the 90s and picking BVB as my 1. team. Never thought SCF would climb to such heights.

  2. Pax finishing strong here at the end of the season. With Mckennie out of the Gold Cup i would like to see him added to the roster.
