Tuesday Kickoff: Champions League returns, MLS playoffs resume, and more

The UEFA Champions League is back, with the next-to-last round of the group stage set to clear up the picture on which teams we can expect to reach the next stage of the competition.

A pair of matchups featuring U.S. men’s national team teammates headline the proceedings for American fans, with Weston McKennie and Christian Pulisic set to cross paths. Pulisic missed the last meeting between Chelsea and Juventus with an injury, but now he and long-time friend and teammate McKennie are both expected to feature in a match that will go a long way in determining which team finishes first in Group H.

American vs. American matchups aren’t confined to the Champions League. DeAndre Yedlin and Galatasaray face off against Konrad De La Fuente and Marseille in a match Gregg Berhalter will be watching closely. Yedlin is coming off a starting role in November’s World Cup qualifiers for the USMNT, while De La Fuente is still working to play his way back into Berhalter’s plans after being left out of the past two international windows.

The MLS playoffs resume on Tuesday night, with the final two spots in the conference semifinals set to be determined. Familiar foes Nashville SC and Orlando City square off for the fourth time this campaign while underdog Real Salt Lake travels to Lumen Field to try and stop a Seattle Sounders side that has welcomed back its big names just in time for another run at the MLS Cup final.
